New Release: Spin Serve

Volleyball was my best sport as a kid, and since I’m from the Midwest, we had to play indoors a lot, given that winter exists and we don’t have any beaches where I come from. But while I was generally a good all-around player, the best part of my game was always my serve. From an early age, I could serve overhand while my peers were still serving underhand, and I took pride in the fact that I could earn several aces a game for my team by hitting the ball off the toss just so.

When I was writing Spin Serve, I thought about how hard it is to have a really good serve in beach volleyball, which has a smaller court than indoor and is also played outside, where there’s, you know, wind. I decided that I wanted to tell the story of Aspen, who is the next best thing on the beach volleyball court, trying to make the Olympics for the first time, and Kendra, the sideline reporter who also happens to be Aspen’s next-door neighbor and a former player herself. Kendra has some baggage related to volleyball that Aspen helps her overcome, and it’s Kendra who helps Aspen nail her best serve.

In Spin Serve, you’ll meet both of them and watch their secret crushes turn to love, while one is finally letting go of her past and the other is trying to win Olympic gold. It’s a secret crush, girl-literally-next door, low-angst, slow-burn sports romance that I hope you enjoy.
