Inspiration comes from surprising places sometimes. For those of you who don’t know, I’m a bit of a sci-fi nerd, like paranormal stuff, and enjoy when there’s both together in one movie, show, book, etc., if it’s done well.
So, one day, I was rewatching Torchwood (and before you ask, no, I have never seen Doctor Who, but someone suggested Torchwood to me as a show I might enjoy, so I started there). There’s an episode where the characters find a device that gives them glimpses into the past. For some reason, in that moment, an idea hit me.
What if there was a device that could not only give someone a glimpse into the past, but also help them make a choice in the present, and maybe even show them a scene in their future? From that idea, Echoes was born. It’s a blend of science fiction in that a government-invented device is responsible for it all, with a little paranormal mixed in because… let’s just say, the device doesn’t work as intended.
There are 4 love stories in Echoes. There’s the story where a character discovers the device, her father’s secret, and her love for a woman she should’ve been with all along. There’s the story of another woman who has a choice to make in the present, and the device guides her to make it. She may or may not listen. There’s the story of a woman who is shown her future where she has a wife and children. Then, sees that woman in the present day and has to figure out how to make that future happen. Lastly, there’s the origin story, the love story that began it all. There’s also someone who’s interested in finding the device and making sure that anyone who knows about it isn’t around to tell anyone else.
You’ll get happily ever afters, so don’t worry about that, but you’ll also get a little danger, some science fiction, and some paranormal in there, too.
I hope you enjoy my first trip into this world.
